Description
M7ECU 81-pin adapter cable for Bosch EDC15 and ME7 ECUs
- ✔ 81-pin control unit connector to a standard 16-pin OBD2 socket
- ✔ For Bosch EDC15 (diesel) and ME7 (petrol) in the VAG group
- ✔ Two crocodile clips for the 12 volt supply on the bench
- ✔ Work on the removed control unit without touching the vehicle harness
- ✔ Sturdy contacts and a hard-wearing sheath for daily workshop use
This adapter cable connects a removed control unit directly to a tool with a 16-pin OBD2 interface. The 81-pin connector picks up the control unit port, the two clips supply the required 12 volts, and through the OBD2 socket you connect your usual programming or tuning interface to the computer.
This item is an adapter or connecting cable, not a programming device, diagnostic device or scanner. Which functions are actually available depends solely on the connected tool and its software.
What the cable is for
When a control unit is worked on at the bench instead of in the car, the connection to the vehicle electrics is missing. The cable closes exactly that gap: it provides power, ground and the data line at one point. That saves clipping individual wires onto the control unit connector – a common source of errors.
Supported control units
- Diesel: Bosch EDC15, EDC15P, EDC15P+, EDC15V, EDC15VM+
- Petrol: Bosch ME7
- Vehicle brands: Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Škoda (VAG group)
Please check before buying whether your control unit really has the 81-pin connector. Different connector shapes occur within the same series. If in doubt, just ask us – we will check it for you.
Why the connection matters when writing a control unit
During reading and writing the data link has to stay stable throughout the whole process. An interruption while writing can render the control unit unusable. This adapter cable is built with solid plug contacts and a robust cable structure to avoid loose contacts and transfer errors.
Robust build for workshop and everyday use
- Hard-wearing cable sheath
- Precisely manufactured plug connections
- Firm fit without unnecessary play
- High contact quality to avoid transfer errors
Important note on function
The adapter cable itself neither reads nor writes anything. It only establishes the connection. All functions – reading, writing, checksum correction – are provided by the connected tool and its software. Work on control units requires expert knowledge.

Frequently asked questions
What is this adapter cable for?
What is this adapter cable for?
The cable connects a removed control unit with an 81-pin connector directly to a tool that has a 16-pin OBD2 interface. The two crocodile clips add the 12 volt supply. That lets you work at the bench without picking off individual wires in the vehicle harness.
Which control units are supported?
Which control units are supported?
Bosch EDC15, EDC15P, EDC15P+, EDC15V and EDC15VM+ on the diesel side, and Bosch ME7 for petrol engines – fitted across the VAG group, so Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Škoda. Please check before buying whether your control unit really has the 81-pin connector; different connector shapes occur within one series.
Do I need an additional power supply?
Do I need an additional power supply?
Yes. At the bench the vehicle electrics are missing, so the control unit has to be fed with 12 volts through the two supplied crocodile clips – for example from a bench power supply or a car battery. A stable supply matters so the connection does not drop during writing.
Is the cable itself a programming device?
Is the cable itself a programming device?
No. It is an adapter or connecting cable and neither reads nor writes anything itself. Reading, writing and checksum correction are handled exclusively by the connected tool and its software. Work on control units requires expert knowledge.
