The GM 12 Pin OBD1 adapter cable connects the manufacturer-specific 12-pin diagnostic port on the vehicle to the standard 16-pin OBD2 socket. Existing OBD2 diagnostic devices, workshop interfaces and handheld scanners can therefore continue to be used without buying a special solution.
This item is an adapter or connecting cable, not a diagnostic device or scanner. The actual diagnostic function depends on the diagnostic device used and the scope of its software.
Please note: not the banana plug version
On the tool side, this cable ends in a standard 16-pin OBD2 socket. It is not to be confused with the cable also available in our shop, “GM 12Pin to 6 banana plugs adapter cable for KTS diagnostic devices”, which is intended for Bosch KTS devices with banana plug connections.
If your diagnostic device has a normal 16-pin OBD2 plug, this cable is the right one.

Before the uniform 16-pin OBD2 connector was introduced, manufacturers fitted their own diagnostic sockets. A modern diagnostic device with an OBD2 connection does not fit there directly. The adapter cable creates the physical link required for the diagnostic hardware to communicate with the vehicle.
