The X431 PAD VII Elite is the flagship of the LAUNCH diagnostic range and is aimed at workshops that look after cars and commercial vehicles under one roof. In this version the heavy duty software package is already included – with the standard versions the truck software has to be bought separately. A single tool therefore covers both the 12 volt and the 24 volt side.
Diagnostics run across every control unit fitted: engine, transmission, ABS, airbag, body, comfort electronics and driver assistance. The topology mapping shows the vehicle network as a diagram and marks faulty control units in colour – on modern vehicles with many bus systems that saves a lot of searching.
SmartLink C – interface, remote diagnosis and J2534 in one
The supplied SmartLink C is more than a diagnostic connector. It works in three roles:
- Diagnostic interface (VCI) at the vehicle, wireless over Wi-Fi in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands
- J2534 pass-thru device to SAE J2534-1 and -2 – for loading original manufacturer software
- Remote diagnosis: a colleague or specialist can connect to the vehicle from a distance
The protocol standards D-PDU, J2534 and RP1210 are supported, as are CAN, CAN FD and DoIP.
Programming and coding
Through the J2534 interface the tool handles online programming and coding of control units. LAUNCH names around 30 brands for this, among them BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Škoda, Porsche, Nissan, Infiniti and Subaru.
Please note: which programming and coding jobs are actually possible depends on the brand, model, year and control unit, and in some countries online programming is not available. For the manufacturer’s original software a separate account with that manufacturer is usually required as well. Call us before you buy – we will go through your vehicles together.

What is topology mapping good for?
It shows the vehicle network as a diagram: which control units sit on which bus, how they are connected, and where something is not responding. Faulty control units are marked in colour. On modern vehicles with many bus systems this finds the starting point of a fault far faster than querying units one by one.
