Thinkcar SFD unlock VAG group for independent workshops

With this unlock your Thinkcar diagnostic tool also works on vehicles with an active SFD protection – for diagnosis, coding and service work in workshop quality. Ideal for independent workshops and professional use.

In the VAG group the access protection is called SFD (vehicle diagnostics protection): it blocks write and partly also read access to safety-relevant control units until the diagnostic tool has been unlocked. Without unlocking, diagnosis, coding and service work on affected models are only possible to a limited extent.

Supported brands

Volkswagen, VW Commercial Vehicles, Audi, Škoda, SEAT, CUPRA, Bentley and Lamborghini – models with SFD protection.

Typical work after unlocking

• Read and clear fault codes in relevant control units
• Evaluate live data and measured values without gateway lock
• Actuator tests and component activation
• Coding and adaptations on enabled systems
• Service resets, calibrations and learning functions

Which jobs are available in each case always depends on model, model year, control unit and the manufacturer’s gateway implementation.

Term: 12 months, no automatic renewal

The unlock is valid for twelve months and does not renew automatically – there is no subscription. After expiry the extended access ends; if needed, simply book a new unlock. Your diagnostic tool remains fully functional without the unlock – it is only required for vehicles with an active security gateway.

How activation works

After purchase you provide the serial number of your Thinkcar diagnostic tool – directly in the mandatory field during checkout or by e-mail. The unlock is created for this serial number. You receive the activation code (T-Code) by e-mail and redeem it directly on the diagnostic tool – no PC and no additional software. The device needs an internet connection for redemption and for authentication on the vehicle.

VAG group specifics: one-time portal registration

Before first use, a one-time registration in the SFD portal is required, which you carry out yourself. Approval usually takes about two working days. After that, each vehicle unlock is secured by two-factor confirmation – usually with Google Authenticator on your smartphone. Please allow for this lead time: the VAG unlock is not available immediately after purchase.

Requirements and compatible devices

You need a compatible Thinkcar diagnostic tool (e.g. from the THINKTOOL range) with an internet connection. If in doubt, send us the model and serial number before purchase – we will gladly check compatibility. The unlock is tied to the serial number provided and cannot be transferred to another device. Use is only permitted with the authorisation or consent of the vehicle owner.

Delivery

Delivery is made to the delivery address provided by the customer during the ordering process. By way of exception, where PayPal is selected as the payment method, the delivery address stored with PayPal at the time of payment is decisive.

If delivery to the customer was not possible and the transport company returns the goods to the seller, the customer bears the costs of the unsuccessful delivery. This does not apply where the customer exercises their right of withdrawal by refusing acceptance, where they are not responsible for the circumstance that made delivery impossible, or where they were temporarily prevented from accepting the goods – unless the seller had given them reasonable advance notice of the delivery.

Shipping costs

• Germany: free from an order value of €50, below that €3.99
• European Union: free from an order value of €100, below that €14.99

Delivery area and delivery time

We deliver to Germany, to the 26 other countries of the European Union and to Switzerland and the United Kingdom. We are currently unable to deliver to other countries.

The delivery time within Germany is usually 1–3 working days.

Payment methods

You can pay by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro), PayPal, Klarna (purchase on account or instalments), Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, advance payment by bank transfer or cash on delivery.

Digital licences and activations

Update licences, secure gateway activations and HaynesPro access are digital goods. No shipping costs apply – you will receive the activation code by email once payment has been received, usually within 1–3 working days.

If the licence is tied to a device, enter your device’s serial number directly in the order form when purchasing. That way we can set up the activation for your device without further enquiries.

Please note: for digital licences the right of withdrawal expires as soon as we have begun providing the item and you have expressly agreed to this beforehand. For devices and all other goods, the statutory right of withdrawal applies unchanged.
